Wendy.
Oops, I must have slipped with my fingers. Torsten Källman is born 30/10 1920
and he is the father of Lars born 9/8 1968
Torsten is the child of Beda and Per Anders Källamn

And..... I dont think that Carin and Carl came to USA together when I spoke to an old Källman man he told med they did not, so you are right.
It seems that you have the right man already.Look what Eva Dahlberg wrote.}

Karl Richard Julius Carlson is drafted on June 7, 1917 in Worcester. He is a Wire worker in a wire company on Webster Street.  He is single, living on 5 Arbor Vital Street (not sure about the street name).

Now, it is interesting to know if information exists about Carl R J and Carin Emilias wedding day. Were they married before June 1917 is Karl J R Karlsson/Kurin perhaps not the right man, but were they married later is he still a strong candidate

Wendy

Richard Carlson, brother-in-law to Peter Anderson or Peter's wife Esther and father to Martha.

Is that the person we are looking for?

If that is the correct man, interesting information might be found in Census 1920.

Thanks so much, Eva...I did go to the archives but could not figure out how to use it...it translates but I will try it again.

Also Mats, yes you do seem to have the right Carlson, brother in law to Ester and Peter, yes, yes, father to Martha! But how do I find this census...help me, we are so close...

And Marianne, the picture I sent has 2 other children with Torsten summer 1929...do we know who they are?

Eva, I am frustrated with the Roteman Data Base.  I have put in Karl Rikard with birthdate, place of birth, county ,etc over and over and still get nothing.  I must be doing something wrong...
Is there a link I may be missing?

Thanks Marianne.  This must be your Torsten at 9 yrs old!  And not just related to me...there are 16 and counting of us in US!

Mats---is the 1920 census you speak of on the Roteman Database?--I can get on but don't find it.

My mother said her father's name was Rikard -- but I was thrown because mom's mother's death notice in the paper (1918) called her Mrs Carl Carlson...Mats, I think you have him...

The 1920 census I mentioned is the American census.  I can mail you a copy if you want (just let me know). It says in the census document that Richard immigrated, but it's hard to read if it is 1909 or 1914.

I also found information in some Worcester City Directories, but unfortunately are some of the years around 1918-1920 missing.

If you haven't been in touch with SARA (Swedish Ancestry Research Association) in Worcester, take a look at this web page and use the guest book to adress your question.

Thanks...I am wondering if it lists anything in particular on   Carlson...particularly date of birth, middle name, parents or birthplace so I can make sure I get the right one.  Can you cut and copy for me here? My email is above if it is easier to send via email.

Are SARA directories online or do I need to email the guest book to access?

Hej-Eva and Mats you were right.
After two months of double-checking, which included a trip to Worcester MA city hall and library, I feel confident that below is my grandfather.  Eva and Mats, you found him - thank you-you both are much better at this than I am!
He was the wireworker in Worcester and does have a draft registration (street registry confirms this) and this news gave my mother a reason to forgive him for leaving her in states with Ester when she was a year old.  Imagine being in a new country for a few years and then being required to fight in the war.
Today I received the letter from the Worcester City Hall, they say there is no record of the marriage of Karin and Carl Rikard, no record of my mother's birth, and no record of her mother's death (although I did find Karin’s obituary notice in 1918 newspaper transcripts).  My mother jokes that she is positive she was born!

Here are my questions for the forum:
Who did KJ Carlsson marry around 1930 in Stockholm?  Were there children?  How do I get information from Stockholm archives after Roteman Database ends in 1925? And why the name change to Kurin?  hmmm

Eva, you spoke of death and estate records but I am not sure how to get them from Stockholm archives.
I did find out that he lived in 1900 in Rosenlund, Karlskoga in the county of Örebro. He lived there with his mother Sofia Matilda Jonsson, b 1863 in Karlskoga. Together with them also lived an husband, called father. His name was Karl Oskar Karlsson, b 1871 in Karlskoga, too. Unsure, if he is the right father. He was a carpenter.

Also, thanks to everyone for getting me this far.  This journey has been very healing for my 90 year-old mother--to know he was to be listed on the draft for WWI --she now understands.

Wondering if anyone can tell me what this listing in the Roteman Database stands for.  I am finding that Karl Rikard Karlsson lives in Stockholm as a boarder in the ealy 1920's.  Marta Elisabet Rodin lives there also and he marries her in 1930.  I also have found two births from another source...these two would be my mother's half brother, Kurt Rikard Rodin and half sister, Sylvie Rodin born in 1925 and 1922.  Yet the Roteman does not list children with Karl and Marta in 1925.  This notation is listed a few times.....would this be listing a child?

Wendy, that is privacy protection on the Internet, so Rotemansarkivet doesn't list data which is younger than 100 years.

He is their father, but their is no indication in Swedish sources that he was married in the US.

The rest is sent by e-mail.

Wendy.
In Granberga Karlskoga lived
Karl Andersson Kurin b. 17/12 1832
his wife Stina Johanna Olsdotter b. 5/4 1736
Children:
Emma b. 14/3 1861
Erik Johan b. 28/5 1864
Karl Oskar b. 28/9 1871
Johan Filip b. 30/3 1875
Viktor Adolf b. 28/5 1879

Here you have your answere of the change to the name Kurin. Karl Oskar Karlssons father had that name, so it was a familyname.
Marianne

This is great Marianne...
Is this something that often happens--a surname changing back and forth between generations?  It seems strange that Karl Oskar did not use the Kurin name.
Also I wonder if Gran Berga is a block name such as our conversation regarding Rosenlund in Karlskoga (see geography postings)...

Wendy. Sometimes it happens that names are changing. You can for example find that the old name is better for you to have, perhaps a more unusual name. You know Karlsson is a common name in Sweden  and Kurin an unusual, so I think that is the reason.
I think that Granberga also is a block or a small willage name.
