I am looking for imformation from Sweden on
my grandparents Andrew Peterson and
Sophia Ingeborg Johnson
No one can find them.
Andrew Peterson was born on April 26, 1875
in Stockholm or so I have been told.
His parents were Pete Peterson and Kate
Anderson.
He had other brothers , but not sure about
sisters.,
He came to America alone as a youn man in
his 20's or so.
He married Sophia in America
they lived in Boone, Iowa all their lives

Sophia Ingeborg Johnson born Dec.1 or 7th ,
1876 or1877 and her parents were John
Johnson and Anna L Peterson
Sophia had 1or2 sister and 1 brother Frank .
Sophia , her brother and sisters and Mother
Anna came to America and left their father in
Sweden because he got a young girl pregnant
I don't know where in Sweden they came from
,but Dalsland or Linkoping Ostergotland come
to mind or maybe she came from Stockholm
where Andrew came from.

I just found out that my grandfather Andrew
Peterson was not the right name in
Sweden.He
changed it to Peterson when he came to
America.
His real name in SWeden was Andrew
Larson and his
father was Peter Larson.
His mothers name was Kate Anderson
He came from Haganas, Sweden
My grandmother was Sophia Ingeborg
Johnson and
her parents were John Johnson and Anna L
Peterson
but she married an Magnus Olson before she
married John Johnson.
In America she used her maiden name of
Peterson

Hi Maxine,

I think you had it right the first time.  Andrew would have the name Peterson (probably Petersson or Pettersson) in Sweden.  The surname comes from the father's first name... (son of Peter).  Daughters would have the first name + dotter.  Sophia's father was probably Johan, Johannes, Jon or Jön (there might be others, but I can't think of anymore right now).  Let's use Johan as an example... Johansdotter would be the daughter of Johan.

Some of your names are Americanized.  Sophia (I have one of those) would probably be spelled Sofia... not a big difference.  I'm not sure what Kate would be.  Johnson definately is Americanized... there are alot of possibilities (as I have found out myself).

Good luck!

Stephanie
