Hi all,
From time to time I find ancestors from Östmark who emigrated to Stockholm.
I assume there are multiple parishes in Stockholm, but does anyone know of a way to determine which parish a person went to? The last ancestor I found showed on the Household Examination that he went to Stockholm, Drottningen 35, which is a street address in Stockholm, I believe. How would a person know which parish?
Regards.

For the period 1878-1926 most of the wards in the city are covered in Stockholms rotemansarkiv:
http://digitalastadsarkivet.stockholm.se/Rotemannen2012/Search.aspx (http://digitalastadsarkivet.stockholm.se/Rotemannen2012/Search.aspx)
In this archive you can also use Advanced search in order to search for a street address, for instance Drottninggatan,35 (with comma and without space). In this case you'll find that the parish is Klara.
The period before 1878 is covered by Stockholms mantalsregister:

That was more than helpful, that was a revelation.
I've run into a few ancestors who emigrated to Stockholm, and I'm sorry to say that it was like a black hole to me. They would just disappear, and I could no longer trace them.
Thank you so much Åke. :)
Regards.

I just wanted to add my thanks as well Åke. Members of my family have been looking for a particular great-grandmother for at least 60 years, with no luck. Your tip helped us break down a wall that has been blocking our genealogical research for longer than I have been alive I agree with Jay. Your tip was more than helpful. It was a revelation. I cannot thank you enough.
With Deepest Gratitude,
Kelly
