Skrivet av: George Lind skrivet 2018-02-15, 15:48
Attached is an image from the estate inventory of Kjerstena Torkelsdotter.  She died May 15 1831 in Brandstad.

Can anyone translate this section of the inventory which lists family members?

Here is the link to the page on Swedish National Archives

Thanks.

In the year 1831, upon proper application, a lawful inventory of the estate was performed by me, the undersigned, after the deceased widow Kierstina Torkelsdotter, living in (reserved estate*) in no 10 1/64 (tax units) Brastad, who perished with death last May without no direct heirs; and thus left the (following) heirs: the brother O. Sjöholm in Östraby and the sister Ingar Torkelsdotter in (T?)olånga Ångehus and Jertre Torkellsdaughter, a pauper in branstad (.) The leaseholder Jöns Silfvan and his wife Anna Rasmusdaughter in the location (i.e. Brastad no 10), who took care of the estate, were admonished to report the same under oath and nothing to conceal.
The valuation was made by the leaseholder Jöns Jönsson i araskoga and Nels Petrusson in the same place. Thus it was enacted in the following order: etc.

*Undantag was a common practice for generation change well into the 20th century. When the parents sold their estate to (generally, but not always) their heirs, they reserved the right to a house (and acreage) or a room in the estate to support them and often some kind of pecuniary or alimentary support.

N.B. Illegitemate children had no inheritance rights, even after their mother, in the time for the estate inventory.
