Titel: How do I trace people in Linkoping from 1871-5 church books to 1881-95 books?
Skrivet av: David Carlson skrivet 2018-02-16, 22:11
It appears that the books were reorganized between these years.  My 4th great aunt Maria Wibom (listed by second husband's last name of Kinnander) born 5 Jan 1803 is shown on line 1 of: Linköpings domkyrkoförsamling (E) AI:68 (1876-1880) Image 145 (AID: v25724.b145, NAD: SE/VALA/00222). She is listed at No. 37.  I can't trace her to the next book as the organization has changed.  Can someone help me?  I am trying to find when and where she died as well as learning how to make the leap between these books.

Also, an Aurora Carolina Elisabeth Dahlgren, born 13 Jun 1851 is listed below her with some notation in front of her name.  What does it say/mean?  It is a bit clearer in Linköpings domkyrkoförsamling (E) AI:64 (1871-1875) Image 154 (AID: v25643.b154, NAD: SE/VALA/00222).  Can you also tell where she was born? Where did she arrive from?  While Aurora may not be my ancestor, it may help me explain a DNA match that currently does not make sense as Dahlgren is in common with both.

Thanks.

In those cases where the order in HE is difficult you often find indexes, in this case at the bottom of AD:s volume list you find Linköpings domkyrkoförsamling AIIc:2 (1880-1894) Bild 40 / sid 69 (AID: v195566.b40.s69, NAD: SE/VALA/00222). There you find that Maria Kinnander is found at page 1657 (note that there is at least three more Maria Kinnander on the same index page) which is Linköpings domkyrkoförsamling AI:73 (1881-1895) Bild 161 / sid 1657 (AID: v25736.b161.s1657, NAD: SE/VALA/00222).

The word before Aurora is "foster daughter" and she is born in Virserum 1851-06-13 and she move in from Elghult (Älghult) 1870. Her birth record is in Virserum C:6 (1845-1861) Bild 52 / sid 95 (AID: v30020.b52.s95, NAD: SE/VALA/00423).

Leif, thanks for helping me again.  I knew there must be an index somewhere but the usual ones at the beginning and end of the books were missing.  It was interesting that the index is only somewhat in alphabetic order as well as having multiple people with the same name since it is such a large city. I finally have her death date, which of course matched what Ancestry had but could not find until I put in the exact date.  Thanks for the lead on Aurora Carolina. That seems to be a different branch of the Rylander family.

Leif, sorry to say I am having trouble finding Aurora and her family in the Virserum books in 1850-56. The birth record says the parents are from Ösjögle but when I look in Virserum (F, H, G) AI:9b (1850-1856) Image 6 (AID: v20254.b6, NAD: SE/VALA/00423) starting at page 647 I can't see them.  Can you help again?  Thanks.

I found the marriage of her Aurora's parents in Kättilstad (E) CI:5 (1828-1860) Image 203 / page 395 (AID: v38647.b203.s395, NAD: SE/VALA/00209). It says she is from Walla but I do not see her listed in Kättilstad (E) AI:15 (1856-1860) Image 242 / page 229 (AID: v24994.b242.s229, NAD: SE/VALA/00209).  I see Nils Rylander on 242/229 but not her. And, I have Nils family and there is no Christina. Thoughts? What is a bondedotter?  Thanks.

Bondedotter = Farmers daughter. I don't understand why the birth record say Ösjögle, but JGA Dahlgren is Färgare = Dyer? (is that an English occupation?) and is found in Strömsholm, Virserum AI:9b (1850-1856) Bild 117 / sid 579 (AID: v20254.b117.s579, NAD: SE/VALA/00423) and Virserum AI:8b (1842-1850) Bild 90 / sid 268 (AID: v20252.b90.s268, NAD: SE/VALA/00423). The family moves to Åseda 1851 and then to Nottebäck 1857.

Thank you both very much for your help.  Based on one little clue I was able to link up a DNA match to my tree after trying for some time, and, I did that when I was looking at something else in my tree.  Aurora's brother, Jon Gustaf Dahlgren came to America and created a new branch of my tree.

Jon Gustaf was a Färgare, which is a dyer or stainer per familysearch.org. I assume he stained wood or dyed (colored) other materials. He was listed as such for most of his life.

Can you find the birth record for Jon Gustaf Dahlgren born 4 Jul 1857 in Älghult?  That is his birth date in all records but when I go to Älghult (G) C:5 (1831-1860) Image 258 / page 499 (AID: v29841.b258.s499, NAD: SE/VALA/00469), I don't find his birth.  Thanks.

Hi David!

In fact Jon Gustafs birthplace is recorded as Åsheda in Älghult AI:13 (page 170). Upon further inspection, he is not to be found in the birth records of Åseda either!

I did however manage to find him in the neighbouring parish Nottebäck: Nottebäck CI:3 (page 626), which makes sense since, as Leif said, the family moved there in 1857.

More than one vicar must have been rather sloppy when copying his records! :)

Guess that makes sense.  And, he is forever recorded as being born in Älghult, even though he wasn't.  I made a note about the mistake in my tree.  Thanks.
