I have a photo of mostly unknown relatives in Frändefors. They are suppposed to be the family of the fanjunkare Gustaf Hansson, born 14 February 1863 in Gråttetorp, Frändefors, and his wife Matilda Olsdotter, born 12 October 1866 in Grunsbo, Frändefors. All of Matilda's siblings emigrated to the U.S., so some of these people are probably relatives from Gustaf Hansson's side of the family.
The photo must have been taken in or before 1923, since the man at the far right in the bottom row (Johannes Paul Ferdinand Hansson) emigrated in July 1923 at age 25. (He died not long after that, due to almost drowning. He developed pneumonia and encephalitis and died 28 September 1923 in Brooklyn, New York.) This Paul (as the family called him) is a family legend because of this and I've always been very interested in his family.
All the children used the last name Hansson.
Children of Gustaf Hansson and his wife Matilda Olsdotter Hansson were:
1. Alfrida Mathilda Gustaviana, born 20 August 1888 in Gråttetorp and died 24 June 1892 in Gråttetorp. (All the children from this marriage were born in Fråndefors.) Obviously she can't be one of the people in the photo.
2. stillborn boy 6 September 1890
3. Gustaf Fridolf Julius, born 17 May 1894 in Gråttetorp and died 5 April 1971 in Göteborgs Karl Johan, Göteborg och Bohus
4. Gunnar Natanael, born 28 April 1896 in Grunsbo and died 20 December 1979 in Grunsbo
5. Johannes Paul Ferdinand, born 23 April 1898 in Grunsbo and died 28 September 1923 in Brooklyn, Kings county, New York, USA
6. Georg Valdimar, born 13 June 1900 in Grunsbo and died 31 March 1968 in Grunsbo
7. Anna Gunhild Alfrida, born 2 November 1902 in Grunsbo and died 25 December 1996 in Grunsbo
8. Laura Helga Linnéa, born 23 December 1904 in Grunsbo and died 6 May 1982 in Ringhem, Frändefors
9. Artur Holger Tage, born 31 May 1907 in Grunsbo and died (of polio) 1 December 1936 in Vänersborg Epidemisjukhuset, Vänersborg
There are extra people and perhaps the others are part of Gustaf Hansson's side of the family.
I can guess that the third person from the left at the top of the page is the fanjunkare Gustaf Hansson. I can also guess that the second person from the left at the top of the page is Matilda Olsdotter Hansson. I've been told that the man at the far right of the front row is Johannes Paul Ferdinand Hansson.
I think the man in this family photo who I guess is Gustaf Hansson looks like this photo of the Fanjunkare on this page.
I know that few (if any) people who would be familiar with this family back in 1923 will be on this board, but just in case, I want to post the following photo.
Matilda Olsdotter Hansson was the sister of my farfar, Johannes Olsson, who was born 26 Feb 1872 in Grunsbo and died 23 Mar 1951 in Jamestown, Chautauqua County, New York.
