Greetings,

I am trying to locate where I found the attached item.  I thought I found it in SVAR but could not locate it.  I checked ArkivDigital but did not locate it either.  Can someone remind me where I came across these?

This one is for my Grandfather Nils Alfred Göransson leaving Torpa Parish, Kronobergs Län early 1900's.  I thought I had written the location where I found the document in December 2018, but cannot find anything.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

huggorm,

Thanks so much for the response.  I appreciate the quick response.  That totally makes sense now.

I found the record of the child that was born when Catherina died.  Her name was Maja.  I take it the last column mentions the Child's Mother died shortly after child birth?  See attached.  Am I correct?

Thanks again.

Looking for assistance in finding the reason for death of two individuals who died in 1790 in Säfsnäs Parish, Dalarnas Län .

Mats Persson and Catherina Persdotter were married 24 June 1786.  I know they had two children Maja and Catharina.

Mats Persson died on 9 November and buried on 21 November
Catharina Persdotter Hustra (wife) died on 19 October and buried on 30 October.

Catherina is individual number 23 and Pers is individual number 30 on the attached.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks so much Ulf.

I noticed a lot of inhabitants in that area got it.  I guess it could have been from a local water or food source.

I noticed that three of my ancestors died with what looks to be from a common reason and within a very short time.  It does not look like it was from a fever.

Mats Ericsson born - 1730, died - 19 November 1770.
Mats' Mother, Marit Jonsdotter, born 1690, died - 19 November 1770 (same day as Mats).
Mats' Father, Eric Matsson, born - 1693/4, died - 26 December 1770 (a month later).

All the above were living in Wästerud at the time when the died.

I cannot read the reasoning for their death.

Any help would be appreciated.

Please see attached.

Harold,

Thanks for the quick response.  Would there be a reason why the mother was not listed?

Looking to verify the Christening of Eric Matsson son of Mats Pålsson and Karin Ersdotter.  Eric was born in Wästerud, Brattfors Parish, Värmlands Län.

I am trying to verify the following record.
I can make out some information such as:
Location - Brattfors,
Christening - 3 December,
Matts Pålsson - father.

I think I see other names such as Matts Ersson and Marit Jönsdotter.  I am just not sure.

Any help on reading the record would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Erik,

Thank you so much for the quick response.  You opened my eyes and mind to a whole new source of information.

The information you provided on Erland matches what I have in the way of his family members (Erland, Anders, Elna etc...).

I am now researching and learning more on Swedish Taxation and Mantalslängd.  Now I know they only paid taxes if they were between the ages of 15 and 63 and that Soldiers were exempt from paying.

I followed your path for the "Kristianstads läns landskontor t o m ca 1900".  I located the heading information from EIII:76.  I was able to find a couple of websites that explained the headings so I see how you came up with the summation of 8 individuals.

I was not even aware of this information.

I will now be able to go through the other years and have a better idea of what it presents.

I am learning more and more every day.

Thanks again for your response.  Bob

I was wondering if I could get some help for the attached pictures below.  I am able to understand most household records in the latter 1800's but not this early.  I am unable to tell the year but know it is between 1742 and 1800.  There are other pages where Bodel is found and I hope any help here will help me translate others.

Any help would be appreciated.

It is from Degeberga Parish, Kristianstads Lån.

Bodel Erlandsson (my 4th Greatgrandfather) is married to Karna Andersdotter.
Bodel was born in 1729 in Slätteberga, Degeberga Parish where he is still living married to Karna.

Can someone assist me as to what else it says related to Bodel?  I don't understand the other notations also listed on these two pages.

Thanks.

Bob

This relates to the post above.  I have the notation showing Nils Alfred Göransson's Miltary Service as 106 14/1905.  I can not find any information at:

Kronobergs inskrivningsområde (Io 11), Inskrivningsområdesexpeditionen (K, H, L, G) D4a:3 1884-1885.

Nils was born on October 6, 1884 in Torpa, Kronoberg.

All I see from the above is births dated for 5 October and 7 October 1884.

Can someone please assist in why I can not find 106 14/1905 in the Kronobergs Miltary Service?

Thanks in advance.

Swedish language / SV: Help with translation of post card
« skrivet: 2018-03-11, 17:21 »
Wow.

Thanks Marianne.

I wonder if they built the new school where Ellen's family lived at one time.  That could be
 just a guess.

Ellen's Father is Nils Nilsson (born 1856 in Brattfors).  The Family moved from Storbrohyttan, Färnebo Parish to Nyhyttan, Färnebo Parish then to Holmberget, Östra Utroten, Filipstad Parish.  Maybe that is where the school sits in Filipstad?

The last place I have of a residence for Nils is from the Bouppteckning dated 1939,  Nils was living at Stadsägan Nr. 699, Filipstad.

Thanks again.

Thanks Per.

Now I understand.  Apparently they increased the size of the school building, since last Ellen had seen it.

I realize now it is a school building.  I was surprised the school building was that big since the population is around 6,000 people or so in Filipstad in the early 1900's.

I did find some photographs showing the building in later years.  It looks like it is a pretty area.

Thanks again.

Hello,

This is a post card that I believe was sent to my FM (Ellen) in USA from her parents in Sweden around 1920.

I tried translating it with Google Translate but I think I need a little help please.

Google Translate:
Front or postcard:

Back of postcard:

Thanks so much for the post. This information on Swedish military service is all new to me.

This is wonderful information you and Anita provided.

Thanks for the link.  It helps quite a bit.  I have a lot of studying ahead of me.

I was wondering if someone could help in this mystery.

On the attached image (Lidhult-G-BI-2-1895-1942-Image-430-Page-35) some of my ancestors (Göran, wife and two childeren) are moving from Torpa Parish to Lidhult Parish.  They are moving in 1913.

It list information about Otto Sigfrid Göransson (born 5 may 1889) under column 10 as No 71 14/1910.  This is under the heading: " Särskilda anteckningar, såsom om afsända och mottagna avisbref m m."  I translate this meaning: "Special notes, such as sent and received newspaper letters, etc.".

Otto actually left to N. America in April of 1913 of that year.

Not sure what the No 71 14/1910 means.

Any help would be appreciated.

Bob

How would I find this letter if this is what it is to find out what it may be?  Can this be found in the ArkivDigital online records?

Thanks so much for the help Erik.

I was able to successfully copy source information through the ArkivDigital Program.  They made it real easy to do.  Example:  Hörröd (L) CI:6 (1862-1894) Image 113 / page 108

Now I have a lot of work ahead of me to redo my citations from Genline to ArkivDigital with the above format.  Luckily I saved all my Bookmarks so far.

Thanks again.

For years I was using Genline and citing them as a Source in my Family Tree Files.  I am now using ArkivDigital.

I believe that Genline is no longer available.  Am I correct?

How is the best way to handle this situation?  Do I completely remove Genline and replace with ArkivDigital?

Example:
Current:
Genline - Swedish Church Records On Line, GID #[100011.30.66000, [Kristianstad] _ scb Kristianstad, : 489, Marriage , Deaths, 1874-1874, 0/0, Image 127 of 129].

Proposed:
ArkivDigital - Swedish Records On Line, Hörröd-L-CI-6-1862-1894-Image-113-Page-108.

Please advise.

Thanks.

Bob

Thanks for the response Britt-Marie.

I wonder if the Swedish Records were a little behind.  It looks like they provided the permission after he left the Parish?

The dates on the Ship's Manifest corresponds with what he placed on his Naturalization Papers in the USA.

Thanks.

Bob

Thought I would add this to go with the above.

Taken from Arkiv Digital (Torpa-G-AIIa-1-1900-1912 Image-286-Page 274).  From the home of Nils' Father, Göran Persson.

Not sure how to understand the note for line #6.  I see the family is moving from Skårseryd and it does list Nils as going to N. America in 1908, but there is an added note to clarify he left in 1907.  Not sure.  Hope this helps.

Bob

25
also wanted to attache the following record from the UK.  Note the same Contract #41515 on the Ships Manifest and UK leaving document.  I see where Copenhagen might come in to play.  Not sure.

Looking for additional help.  I guess I ran into a brick wall.

Nils Alfred Göransson born in Torpa, Kronoberg 6 October 1884.  He arrived in the USA at New York on 3 November 1907 aboard the ship Lucania.  He left Liverpool on the same ship on 26 October 1907.

I have the Manifest verifying the above dates.  I am unable to determine the ship and port that Nils left Sweden about that time.  I subscribe to ArkivDigital but can not find him under the Police Records.

The attached document (Torpa-G-BI-2-1900-1949-image-230-Page-17) taken from ArchDigital is incorrect.  Nils did arrive in 1907 not 1908.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Bob

Bingo.  It worked.  It does not show it when you "preview" post.  You have to "post" to see image.

John,

Thanks so much.  I tried it a few times as you stated with no luck.  I am guessing the preview post does not show the picture.  I will try again with the image attached and "post" and see if it works.

Thanks again.

I have recently returned to searching my Swedish Family History but have found the site to be a little different now.

Please help in trying post an image in to the body of the post.

By the way, I am member M24669 on DISBYT.

My Ancestors start with Nils Alfred Göransson (1884-1931) > Göran Persson (1848-1918> Per Andersson (1792-1881)> Anders Bodelsson (1761-1832)>  Bodel Erlandsson (1729-1817)> Erland Bodelsson (1709-1751)> Bodel Nilsson (1675-1718)> ?.

Most of my ancestors on my FF side come from Kronoberg or Skåne.
My FM side is in the Värmland area.

Thanks in advance on how to post an image.

Bob
