Hello Anbytarforum,
Could someone please help me read where Karin Jansdatter is from in this marriage record?  She is the bride in entry 20 at the bottom of the page.  I have attached a close-up of her marriage record or the ArkivDigital link is:   Värmskog (S) C:6 (1794-1844) Image 266 / Page 531 (AID: \newurl{http://www.arkivdigital.se/aid/info/v8750.b266.s531,v8750.b266.s531} \link{http://arkivdigital.se/aid/show/v8750.b266.s531,Open}, NAD: \newurl{http://sok.riksarkivet.se/?postid=Arkis%20893c2c02-bdf5-46a5-b7ac-0ed46b9dd6ba&s=Balder,SE/VA/13638}

Hi

She was also from Björndalen, härstädes means "here" (här in Swedish) or "same Place".

Thank you so much Klas. I thought I saw her in the same Household examination, but then I got worried that I made a mistake.  No wonder I couldn't figure out a farm name!  I have added härstädes to the Swedish words I need to learn.  Thank you so much again!  I really appreciate it!

You are welcome! I must point out though that "härstädes" is an old expression not very common today :). "Här" is the same as here and "städes" is a variation of "stad" or "sta", a very common ending in Swdedish names for Parishes or places. In old Swedish stad simply meant Place but today it means City. Also I can say that the different places you can see in our Church Archives often refers to what we in old Swedish call for a "By" (or many Byar). A "By" was a Place that had at least two farms but it could have several farms and also some minor cottages on their estates. The large land reform in early 19 th Century split them up so today it is most common to see singel farms in the Swedish Cultural Landscape.

Here is a link to a site in English about the land reforms. Village in the text is not the same as the English Word Village, a Place with a few hundred people up to a few thousand people, but the Swedish "by".

Thank you very much Klas!  This is really going to help me get a better understanding of the farms that my ancestors lived on.  This is exactly what I have been wanting to find, so I can get a better idea of how close the different branches of my Swedish family lived.  It is very kind of you to be so generous with your time and knowledge!  Again, thank you so much!
