Hi!

Karl Helmer Olsson (Olofsson), 1888-09-05, Tunvågen Hackås, Jämtland, Sweden (Hackås fs F&D Bok 1883-1894 C:4 p30.
Carls mother was Märta Eriksdotter b. 23 Aug 1863 in Ocke/Mörsil and his father was Olof Olofsson b. 9th Nov 1854 in Wåmhus/Mora.

I'm trying to find my fathers uncle Karl (Carl Olson?) who, according to the Swedish church books, emmigrated to USA in 1909. C left Sweden, what I know, without any company of other close relative. In the books C is comitted as missed in 1912, but there's also a note were he is declared dead 18th March 1970 (Hackås AIIa (1896-1913), p9, p178). The photo below prove that he was alive after 1912 and so do also information from one of my relatives.

I've found two possible records of immigrants that might be Karl:
Name, when recorded, destination
Carl Olofson, 3rd Feb 1909, Boston Massachusetts
Carl Olsson, 21st Apr 1909, Vermillion On

On the attached photo (composed of two - probably from the same year) you can see Carls wife, Carl and their daughter Ruby. I guess the photo is taken in the thirthies, maybe the car could help to find out.

Is there anyone who can help me with information about Carl, anything about the photo or hint me of the best way to track C and his family?

Thankful for any help!
Roger

To help identify this person, do add birth date and birth place plus parents name and possible name of emigrating siblings.

I can't find the information about emigration 1909 in the churchbooks, but he is moved to obefintliga in 1912, without, as I can see, any information on why.

In Ancestry is his WW1 draft card found, so he is alive after 1912 :-)

Thanks Mats and Maud!!

I'm impressed, I've tried to find this man spending 60-70 hours I thought that he departured from Gotenburg/England and arrived in US, I'm not very efficient yet I assume:-)

Any idea when the photo might have been shot, according to the marrige and the assessed age of Ruby (if born after marrige) it might be about 1935-40?

Do you know if there are any ways to do more research of his children (-s children) or is it the same laws in US as in Sweden that prohibit  personal public information from now and 70 years back in time?

Is there any db for Canadian imigrants like Ellis Island? I had no idea that they sailed from Trondheim to NA, now it's obvious to choose that harbor if you were living in Jamtland! Maybe I can find the departure of his brother Erik b. 22nd May 1884 as well now, he probably left Sweden after 1900 and tragical comitted suicide in 3rd April 1907 in Snohomish.

A great thanks again my friends
Roger

I looked at Dorothy M Holt and according to Wisconsin Birth Index (Ancestry) she was born 31 May 1905.
How old is the lady on the picture?

Hi again!

I'm surprised as well, cause regarding to the notes for the photo with wife and Ruby, my fathers cousine has written wife and Ruby. The photo seems to be shot in the 30ties?, and the lady looks to be older than 30.

In the original photo with the wife and the car, Ruby is standing beside her and I estimate Rubys age as probably the same here as on the photo with her father. Therefore I'm convinced that both photos are shot the same year or in worst case there is one year between them. This photo is glued in the album, I'll give it at try to see if there is any text och the backside.

Maybe the lady is the mother in law or someone else?

And possibly here's the two children in 1930 living with another family without their parents, probably indicating that Dorothy was already dead by then--if so, then you are right that she is not the woman in the photo.

Hi and THANKS Carl!!

I'm so thankful for all help I've got from all of you my friends!!

Mats: In Hackås AIIa:1(1896-1913), p 178 there's a note N.A. 09, I assume North Amerika -09 - I don't no if that's the reason for the non existing tag in the church book. Or if the pupose for the priest was just to confuse the after world :-)

According to an aunt of me she mentioned some years ago that Carl had two children I thought she mixed the up information. So i started to find proof that he really went to N.A., I thought the non existing tag ment that he had vanished from the soil of Earth. So it seems like my aunt was more right than the church book:-)

So Carl and Dorothy got married in 1925, their son Charles was born in the same year and their daughter Ruby 1927.
Sometime between 1927 and 1930 Dorothy probably died. Is it possible to find her death record?
In 1930 Ruby and William/Carl lived (temporarly?) with the Stahl family. Father's Birthplace: Norway seems strange or is it in the context of F A Stahl? Or is it a mix up of a recording person?
In 1940 the family, except Dorothy, is gathered again.
Ruby destiny isn't it possible to find?
18th of March 1970 Carl/Charles is declared dead and this information is sent to Hackas, the place of birth.
22nd Feb 1985 C W Olson passed away. Did C W have any family?

My plan is to do some reaserch during Cristmas/New Year vacation using Ansestry. So by the way Carl, my earlier question - how much can you dig in American records during 1940-2012?

Best regards and Thanks again!
Roger

The dödförklaring might have been done in Sweden, by Swedish court. It is not obvious where the information comes from

Hi Roger, about the 1930 census record and the children's father's birth place, I only can guess that the Stahl family gave the wrong country, maybe they knew Carl was Scandinavian but not which country he came from.  Also I could not find any online index of deaths for Wisconsin for 1926 to 1930 so do not know when Dorothy died.  This seems to be Dorothy in 1920 though, before their marriage.
Name:   Dortha Holt
Age:   14
Birth Year:   abt 1906
Birthplace:   Wisconsin
Home in 1920:   Crandon, Forest, Wisconsin
Race:   White
Gender:   Female
Relation to Head of House:   Daughter
Marital Status:   Single
Father's Name:   Fred Holt
Father's Birthplace:   Wisconsin
Mother's name:   Mildred Holt
Mother's Birthplace:   Wisconsin
Able to Read:   Yes
Able to Write:   Yes
Neighbors:   View others on page
Household Members:
Name   Age
Fred Holt   46
Mildred Holt   45
Dortha Holt   14
George Holt   10
Orva Holt   7
Elva Holt   16

Records available at Ancestry after 1940 are varied by state, for Wisconsin there are indexes for marriages from 1973-1997 and for deaths from 1959 to 1997.  Other possible places to look are the public records indexes found under Schools, Directories and Church Lists.  There also are city directories that sometimes are helpful, but I do not seen any for Hiles, Wisconsin (that is where Carl and Dorothy lived at the time of their marriage according to the marriage record).

Hi and THANKS to you both Carl and Mats!

I'm really thankful for all your help, if you run into any more information I'll gladly recieve it.
All you have helped me so much, I really thought that guy was dead either on the trip over or just after he did arrive to NA. I'm a little bit ashamed for not fully believing my aunt 7 years ago, no I think she's to old to take it in. However, I will tell my fathers cousin, that provided me the photos, all these news.
Regarding Charles age when he joined the Navy, I realised it yesterday when I read the link about the grave and thought what did he see and experince during those years? What did he carry in his backpack, was it the reason for his rather short life?
Now I have a very good base to stand on, hopefully I'll can spend a couple of weeks during Christmas and New Year doing more research. I'll suscribe a month at Ancestry in that time. Think if I/we have relatives in NA that we've not been aware of or even met!

Thanks again and don't hestitate contacting me or provide me with more information. I know you put a lot of time in helping me already and I'm very very thankful for that. All the information you brought to me should have taken me a BUNCH of hours (days-weeks) to find!

Best regards
Roger
