Where can I get information of people who settled in Eau Claire, wisonsin, in 1887. Have two persons, Erika Eriksdotter and Johan (John) Erikson from Nordmaling, Sweden, who came to that place . Erika born 11 June 1865 and Johan on 20 november 1867. Erika died in wilmington NC 1900. But where can I find Johan?
Thanks in advance!

A John Erickson is listed in the Wisconsin vital records index as having died in Eau Claire, WI on April 3, 1897.  Is it possible this might be the person you are searching for?
If you think it is possible, you may request a copy of his death record through the state of Wisconsin.  Here is the web address with the costs and printable forms to make such a request:

http://www.vitalrec.com/wi.html

Or, the address (& URL) for Eau Claire County Vital Records requests:

Eau Claire Register Of Deeds
721 Oxford Avenue
Eau Claire, WI 54703-5481

http://www.uwec.edu/Admin/Library/Guides/preclaire.html
(scroll down to Eau Claire)

It seems easier to get the records from counties in Wisconsin than from the state - and less time consuming too.  But I am not sure the cost is listed on Eau Claire County's website.  Maybe you can find the cost listed on the  Eau Claire County Rootsweb/U.S. Gen Web site.  Either way, it may be helpful to you.

Good luck

Erica!
Thanks a lot, but my ancestor was alive about 1920. He visited Sweden then.

Hi Bo,

There is a John Lynch with the same birthdate as Your John Erikson, 1867, Nov. 20 in SSDI. Death Dec 1966 in Foxboro, Norfolk, Massacusetts.
I found this in SSDI.

In Emigranten I found that Johan Erikson, Nordmaling, went out from Gotenburg, 1887, June 17. Destination: Eau Claire.

Hi Sam
Sounds strange. I do beleive my Johan died somewhere in Wisconsin, if he changed his surname it is possibly to Norden. But will check. Next time why do not speak Swedish.
