One of our family's treasures is a photograph on a card that is
supposedly grandfather's mother
named Sophie Bernadotte. Imprinted on the card is the word Presto
[presumably the
photographer], and the word Wenersberg. I am told that the latter is
now known as Vänersborg,
which is a town located in Västa Götland. It appears on my atlas as the
southernmost town on
Lake Vanern. On the back of the photo is written Photografi Atelier
(image 142).
Grandfather was Frank John Hendrickson, DOB November 22, 1846,
supposedly in Stockholm. He came
to America in abt 1865-1867, and may have returned to Sweden in 1872 for
a short visit because
we found on the Emigraten CD a reference to F Henricson of America
destination Redwing, which is
where he lived, and family tradition has him making a return trip to
visit.
Does anyone know if there are any records from Presto, the
photographer? I once heard a story about a
complete archive of a local photographer's work in the American midwest
being saved and kept in a local history museum. Maybe the same might be
true here.
