I wondered if a look-up could be done for a Martin Swanson (Svenson) born Oct. 1856.  He supposedly emigrated to N. America with his family in 1887.  All this information came from American census records after arriving.  I thought if a Martin Svenson could be found in the 1880 census, probably unmarried, that matches the birth information, I would then use Genline to look in the _Scb records for any counties where a match is found, to look for his children's births.  Does that seem possible?

As for emigration records: He left with wife Christine Nelson b. 1861, son Enoch b.1881, daughter Hulda b. 1883, daughter Elvera b. 1887.  If I could just find a county they came from, I'm sure I could do something from there.

Thanks so much for any help or advise you can give me.

Hi Eileen, I think I found them in the cd Emibas in stead, with some data correct and other not (his and her year of birth and the fact that they seem not to be married according to Emibas, I haven't checked the household records)

There are two parishes that were called Sönnarslöv in Kristianstad county and were re-named to Västra Sönnarslöv (=Western) and Östra Sönnarslöv - (=Eastern), Västra Sönnarslöv is closer to Helsingborg and Östra Sönnarslöv is closer to Kristianstad, so my first check would be in Östra Sönnarslöv.

Kersti Nilsson and children, plus her mother Johanna, are found at number 266 D in GID 1446.88.13600,  [Kristianstad] Kristianstad Stadsförsamling, AI.26, Household examination, 1879-1888, page 1707,  Image 136.

All the children are recorded as odöpt (not baptised), so Kersti was most probably member of some sect not recognized by the church of Sweden, and perhaps she was also married, but her marriage not recognized.

Mårten Svensson, higher on the same page, has a remark that he claimed that he lived in marriage in baptist fashion with Kersti Nilsson.

I'm sure this is the right family, as the father was a shoemaker in America.
I thank you both so very much.  With my subscription to Genline, I should have no problem search for more family.

Must appreciatively,
Eileen
