I looked up the birth of Johannes Persson using the scanned SCB birth records on Genline.

Johannes was the illegitimate son of the piga (female farm worker) Anna Johansdotter who lived in number 3 Vallberga (in Ekeby parish, Malmöhus county). The mother was 27 years old.

Mother and son can be found together in the household examination for Ekeby parish 1852-1861. I can't read her birthdate on Genline. She was born in Balleberga????

It looks as if Anna Johansdotter was born 6 March 1833.

Is the Johannes Persson found on Emibas the right one? His wife's name matches, but are the children the ones you expect?

Do you know where Anna Johannesson- born - 8/31/1828 to Johannes Jansson and Boel Bengtsdotter was born?

Johannes Jönsson's daughter Anna was born 31 August 1828 in Sireköpinge, and the Anna Johansdotter that is the mother of Johannes Persson was born 6 March 1833 in Billeberga which is another parish in teh area. Johannes Persson emigrates twice, the first time in 1887 according to Emibas.

Jim, are you and your aunt following multiple lines here? If we go back until 31 May above, some info is by now duplicated here. It looked from the beginning as you knew a lot already of Johannes Jönsson's and Boel Bengtsdotter's children, but that may perhaps not be the case. Do you want them all?

regards,
Eva

Jim, I think that Johannes Persson's wife Johanna Hansdotter born 1 April 1861 in Sireköpinge is the daughter of Hans Johansson (born 1823 - and Måns' older brother), according to Sireköpinge birth book and household examination rolls (Sireköpinge C:1a (1814-1875) page 46 and Sireköpinge AI:9 (1861-1867) page 188 - where both Jöns and Hans are recorded with ther families).

Anna Johansdotter born 1833 in Billeberga is still in Sweden in 1890. I have not been able to establish when Anna born 1828 in Sireköpinge emigrates.

Eva, regarding the possibility of following multiple lines, I can now see that there may be some of that going on.  I realize that folks on the forum would not want to do double work, and I do apologize for any duplication of effort.  Although it is fun making these connections, it is my hope that my aunt, Janet Foley, will be allowed to post on this forum and take the lead for our family.  She is the one in our family who loves genealogy, and is always trying to expand and fill in the family tree.  I feel like I am over my head.  I did send an inquiry to the forum asking if there is a problem with Janet's registration, which she applied for about a week and a half ago.  With all of the wonderful information that folks on this forum have provided, she is incredibly happy and excited, and thanks all of you.  Our trip to Sweden is so meaningful to her, and also to me; it is made more so by the help from good folks on this forum.  We can now be much more focused on the trip.  In answer to your question - do you want it all?  I would say any information that would lengthen, expand or fll in the family tree would be great.  But that may be too general  of a request to make??  The last thing I want to do on this forum is to make a ridiculous request that upsets the very people, such as yourself, who have been so kind and provided much information already.  If it is not so ridiculous, then we would appreciate more information.  Thank you.

Jim (and Janet), the difficulty is just that it's not easy to know what you already have found regarding the family. They move around a bit in Skåne, and if research already has been done by Janet then it's easier to check names and dates (as have been done above) if references to sources are provided.

Do you for example have a date of emigration for Anna born 1828 as she also seems to emigrate as you state, I lost track of her in Sweden and don't easily find her again.

But looking at the 1900 US Census for Johannes Persson and wife Johanna
 (with children as above at emigration and several more, in Nebraska > Nuckolls > Highland > District 134 > 9) Anna Persson mother in the family is born in March 1833 and emigrated in 1892 - which means that this Anna is not the one who is a sister to your Mans Johnson (of Blair Nebraska I note in the 1880 US Census). So that partly the reason is why I ask if you are tracing mutiple linses (collateral lines - several different families). But as I noted yesterday, I think that Johanna is related to you, as a niece of Mans - cousin to Magnus.

regards,
Eva

Eva, I just spoke with Janet.  She reviewed your messages and understands. Also, Viktoria Jonasson indicated that Janet's registration did not come through last week.  Janet has re-applied today and awaits approval. She said that your last post does have additional information - thank you again.  When she gets approved to post on the forum, she will be better able than me to express her needs.  One month ago I would have never guessed that I would be posting on a genealogy forum, but I have found that you and the other folks here are amazing researchers and wonderful to correspond with.  I am so looking forward to visiting Sweden next month and be able to see the places that we have been discussing.

Regards,
Jim

I am looking for information on the family of Hans Svogerson (maybe Svager) - who was born (26 April, 1868) in Asmundtorp and immigrated to the U.S. in in 1890-91.  He married Christine Olasdotter (born 11 August 1866) to Ola Johannesson (born - 09 September, 1833).  I am also looking for information on Elna Johnson Svager who was buried on February 7, 1931 in Asmundtorp.   I think Hans had a sister named Astrid Hagstrom.  I plan to be in Asmundtorp on the weekend of July 9, 2011 and hope someone can help me with information on this family.

Hi Janet, looking at the Svagers, from the postings on Scangen earlier in June and through looking at the family in Asmundtorp household examination rolls, I think that Astrid was Hans' and Elna's niece, and that Hans emigrated with his father's name Persson and took a version of his mother's name in the US. Elna's last name was Jönsson - born out of wedlock to Anna Svågersdotter (Svåger being the first name of Anna's father, Hans and Elna's grandfather).

Hans' emigration from Emibas:

Pehrsson, Hans
Dräng (unmarried man)
b. 7/26/1867 in Asmundtorp, Malmöhus län (Skåne)
Emigrated 5/9/1887
from Norra Möinge 10, Asmundtorp, Malmöhus län (Skåne)
to Amerika
Source: Household Examination Roll, p. 141

In Asmundtorp AI:20 (1883-1890) page 178a - where he is listed with his mother and sisters - his birthdate is given as July 26, but on page 141 the 7 for July is overwritten with a 4 for April. They are also found in Asmundtorp AI:18 (1869-1874) sid 156, for example.

Astrid Hagström from the dvd Swedish Death Index 1901-2009

Registered (1984) in Asmundtorp, Landskrona kn (Malmöhus län, Skåne). Registered for taxation (1984) in the same parish.
Born 1/12/1899 in Asmundtorp (Malmöhus län, Skåne).
Unmarried woman.
--------------

Her parents were Nils Hagström (1849-1902) and Anna Persson (born 23 Oct 1863), in his second marriage (source Asmundtorp AI:21 (1891-1894) page 202, Asmundtorp AIIa:1 (1895-1906), page 227 and 294). Anna is the sister of Hans and half-sister of Elna. Nils has several children from his first marriage (to Pernilla Svågersdotter 1842-1893) as well as in the marriage with Anna.

Anna Svågersdotter - mother of Hans (born in 1867), Elna (born in 1852) and Anna (born in 1863);

As you can see, the only ones in the family in Sweden with the name Svåger.... is Hans' mother Anna and her siblings, born to Svåger Olsson (1799-1854) and his wife Anna Haraldsdotter (1804-?), they are at Asmundtorp no 1, in Asmundtorp AI:13 (1842-1849) page 175 and Asmundtorp AI:14 (1850-1855) page 104 - where I at least find the following (aunts and uncles to Hans Svogerson)
* Elsa or Else (b. 1826)
* Ola (b. 1828, d. possibly 1902 - name and place of birth matches but not the date of birth with one Ola Svågersson in Swedish Death Index 1901-2009)
* Anna (b. 1833 - mother of Elna, Hans and Anna)
* Hans (b. 1836, d. 1851)
* Kjersti (b. 1838, d. 1907 in Asmundtorp, unmarried according to Swedish Death Index)
* Hanna (b. 1840, d. 1911 in Asmundtorp, unmarried according to Swedish Death Index)
* Pernilla (b. 1842, d. 1893 - first wife of Nils Hagström ...)
* Lars (b 1845, d. 1848)
* Per (b. 1850)

Regarding Ola Johannesson (also mentioned in Jim's and my posts above in this thread) and daughter Christine - an e-mail will arrive later
But this is from Emibas:

Olsdotter, Christina
Piga (unmarried woman)
b. 8/11/1866 in Sireköpinge, Malmöhus län (Skåne)
Emigrated 5/9/1887
from Loarp 4, Halmstad, Malmöhus län (Skåne)
to Amerika

Eva - You  helped clear up the relationship of Elna and Hans.  If I have it right, Elna was born to Han's Mother Anna in 1852 out of wedlock and is Hans' half-sister.  His only true blood sibling is Anna born 8/31/1833.  Do I understand that his Mother Anna had several other children also?  I am sorting the names and dates and will come back if I have more questions.  Thanks
