Looking for information on Otto Frank Anderson, born 1860 Oct 9 in Kritianstad, Kvidinge Parish, Skane, Sweden. His parents were Assar Andersson, Johanna Jonsdotter. I am looking for more info on his parents (i.e. - birthdates) and information on his siblings.

Ha en trevlig helg!

Hello Ken

I have found this
Otto Frank Assarsson born 9 of October 1860 in Maglaby Kvidinge
Father Assar Andersson born 2 of October 1825 in Kropp Malmöhus län
Mother Johanna Jonsdotter born 2 of February 1817 in Kvidinge Kristianstad
Otto had a brother called Anders born 6 of December 1864 in Maglaby

The family moved from Mörarp in Malmöhus län to Kristianstad in 1859.
I could not read the birthrecords from Kropp Malmöhus and Kvidinge.

Ha en trevlig helg
Hälsningar Ulla

Hi Ken!

I tried my luck on the birth of Otto Frank Andersons father. I think I have found the correct birth and family.

Assar Andersson was born on October 2 1825 in Kropp parsish as Asser.

His father: Anders Påhlsson b. October 10 1783 in Kvidinge parish (This is what I believe I can interpret from the records.)
His mother: Hanna Ohlsdotter b. April 13 1780 also in Kvidinge parish (This is what I believe I can interpret from the records.)

The rest of the family, i.e his siblings, at the time of Assers birth:

Son: Nils b. February 2 1807 in Kvidinge parish.
S: Bengt b. July 12 1809 in Kropp parish.
S. Påhl b. July 9 1813 in Kropp parish.
Daughter: Gunilla b. February 25 1812 in Kropp parish.
D: Kiersti b. May 8 1818 in Kropp parish.
S: Pehr b. February 1 1821 in Kropp parish.

In regards to Assars mother, I think I have found the birth record for Johanna Jonsdotter. It is extremely difficult to read (For me at least).

On February 2 1817 she was born in Kvidinge parish. Her parents were:

Father: Jöns Ollsson
Mother: Sissa (?) Jönsdotter

She was at the time their only child.

Jöns Ollsson dies on January 18 1819 and was buried om January 24 1819.
His age at the time of death was according to the records 42 years.
His cause of death is some sort of fever. I am afraid I can't interpret that.

On November 25 1820 the widow Sissa Jönsdotter married Nils Jönsson.

And on September 20 1821 Sissa Jönsdotter and her new husband gave birth to a babygirl named Christina.

Tack Sa Mcket! I can't thank you enough this is so important to my folks and family!

I am coming to Sverige the end of May. I look forward to being in my Fatherland and/or Motherland (so to speak) actually both... because I am 100% Swedish all my ancestrers immagrated to the US in the late middle 1800's (1860's/1870's) and came to Nebraska and homesteaded and were farmers.

The people that do this are awesome!

Regards

I hope you will have a very nice time here in Sweden and perhaps here in Skåne!

And don't worry about asking to many questions. Most of us in here are more than willing to help.

Ken, Otto goes by only the name Otto in the clerical surveys/household examination rolls in Kvidinge (I checked Kvidinge volume AI:12 covering the years 1866-1874, page 244, and Kvidinge volume AI:14 covering 1874-1885, pages 244, 236 and 297), as well as in his birth record (Kvidinge volume C:5, covering 1860-1887) and in the cd Emibas with emigration data

Assarsson, Otto
Dräng (unmarried man)
b. 10/9/1860 in Kvidinge, Kristianstads län (Skåne)
Emigrated 3/21/1881
from Magleby 22, Kvidinge, Kristianstads län (Skåne)
to Amerika
Source: Household Examination Roll, p. 297
Emibas migration file ID: Kvidinge L 1881 002

Anders seems to be his only full brother, but their mother Johanna Jönsdotter has at least 4 children from a previous marriage, daughters Petronella Olsdotter, born in Kvidinge 1847 and Johanna Olsdotter born in 1850 in Kvidinge, Assarina born and dead in 1859, and son Nils Olsson born in 1853 in Kvidinge.

I would say that it's only Asser/Assar who moves in from Mörarp's parish in 1859, see Kvidinge AI:9, 1855-1859, page 183, where Johanna and her family is listed (her husband dies in 1859) as well as farm hand Assar Andersson.

Johanna Jönsdotter dies in Maglaby (a village in Kvidinge parish) on 19 April 1899, according to the household examination rolls Kvidinge AI:18, page 229. Assar is still alive, the new book starts 1900 but I have not traced him further (yet).
By this time both Nils and Johanna still are unmarried, living with their mother and stepfather, but Johanna has a daughter.

Would you mind telling us where in the US Otto ended up and when he died? Possibly somewhere in Nebraska as you state above?
(I'm a Kvidinge researcher myself and would be interested in that information)

regards,
Eva

Eva,

Of course...

First off we know Otto was in Denver, Colorado and later had a land claim in eastern Colorado but the land was no good. So Otto came to be a hired hand on a Hedda Marie Hyg's homestead 3 miles north of Bertrand, NE.. A while after Otto was there Hedda's husband died of a fever. Otto ended up marrying Hedda and they had 2 children, one of them being my grandmother. Later in their lives they moved into the city of Bertrand where life was a little easier than being on the farm.

Thanks for the additional information!

Regards
Ken

Oops... Forgot to include the date!

Otto passed Oct 26, 1943 in Bertrand, NE and is buried at Immanuel Cemetery, Bertrand.

Actually Hedda'a last name was Hog with two dots over the o like this ö, so I guess it is pronounced Hyg (like Hig), they went by High here in the US.

Ken

If Hedda went by the name High in the US, they simply just translated the word Hög. Hög = High.

It's not really pronounced the way you describe. I am wrecking my brain here trying to find a sound in English that sounds like an Ö.

I found a place on the web where you can write a swedish word into a field and then hear the actual word being spoken.

http://www.acapela-group.com/text-to-speech-interactive-demo.html

Just copy and paste the word HÖG, select a voice. In this case I recommend Swedish - Emma and then just listen.
