Karl Johan Persson Fernqvist

I am looking for information about my maternal grandmother's first husband, Karl Johan Fernqvist, born about 1867 in Dalarna, Sweden. He came to the US and settled in Crystal Falls, Michigan. He died there in a mine accident in 1903. His wedding certificate says his father was Per Erich Fernqvist and his mother Carolina Persson.

I find that Karl Johan or Johan Karl Fernqvist was born 12 Dec 1871 in Ramsberg, Örebro, Sweden. He would have emigrated circa 1895-1897. He was married in Sept 1897. I hope to find more about his family in Sweden and his actual emigration. Thanks for any help.

You must check the parish records (of course) but there is a Per Erik Fernqvist with a different wife (or perhaps there is an error with the wife's last name. I have OFTEN found that  wedding applications and death certificates, etc.,asked the names of the parents and last names were incorrect.)Maybe this is your family. You need to prove or disprove it in the parish records. However, it is hopeful that they lived in the same part of the parish from which your relative emigrated and it adds to the hope since some of the children were born in Ramsberg.

  Thank you so much for the information. I too think the mother's last name my be incorrect on the marriage application copy I have. What is the meaning of Hans Ingelstorp after all the entries? I have two possible candidates for Karolina Jansdotter, one born 8 Jan 1850 in Ramsberg to Johan Asp and Maja Stina Ersson and the other born 3 July 1850 in Ramsberg to Johan Jansson and Greta Lovisa Ersson. I had done some searching on the LDS website and these were the two that seemed most promising. Again, thank you. Karen

Hans Ingelstorp is the smaller place within the parish(farm or village) where they were living.
 
The Family Search site is far from being a complete listing of all Swedes who lived so you may not have found all the people with that name who were born that year in that parish. Research in the Swedish parish records (working backwards in time from the known to the unknown) should solve the problem for you.

The birth record of Karolina Jansdotter can be seen at GID # 300.67.10800 and of course the last name of the mother Greta Lovisa was Ersdotter (daughter of Erik), not Ersson (son of Erik.) She was baptised 5 July. More is listed, including the residence of the parents within that parish and witnesses to the baptism. Karolina was the 83rd birth in that parish that year.
