I am wondering if it is difficult to find obituaries in newspapers in smaller communities in Sweden.  Was it a common practice to write a death notice in a newspaper?  Once I find the exact dates, which will be in the 1920-1960 time frame, I will want to checkout the newspaper for the community of Torup, Halland.
If any one can tell me what newspaper would cover that parish and where I would find it, I would be most grateful.
Also is there a newspaper covering this parish at the present time, should I want to send a query to it?
Thankyou,  Eileen

Eileen,

I think in Sweden brief death notices have long been the rule, while obituaries containing a biography are very rare.

A death notice of that time typically says that so-and-so passed away peacefully, saying where and when and giving the person's age, mourned and missed by wife, siblings, children and grandchildren. Some close relatives names are written underneath, often followed by a Bible verse reference or a hymn (or later a poem).

Here's an example:

I'm sorry I can't contribute on newspapers of the Halland area, hope someone else can fill you in on that!

Eileen,

The newspaper covering Torup is Hallandsposten and you can reach them here,
http://www.hallandsposten.se, but they have no material in the digital archive before 2002.

Hallandsposten from 1857-2009 is available on microfilm at The Swedish National Library in Stockholm, and in the University Libraries in Gothenburg and Lund

Thank you Jan and Chris.  I presume this is the paper then that would have death notices for Torup (if there was one) for the 1920-1960 time frame?  Is it difficult to get someone to search for these clippings?  Who would I contact?    Many thanks.  Eileen
