Sister Sara, could that be JA's sister Ida, using another name?

Ida emigrated twice (at least)

I find it a little bit interesting that she uses Friman

I have had an answer in the Norwegian forum from the Norwegian National Archives that the marraige books from Oslo city sheriff, containing marriages have been scanned but not published yet. The person who answered has access though.

It looks like it must be Ida who is the sister

So to summerize it all based on the questions Mary had;

Was Anna Maja Maria born in Tösse in July 1868?
Yes, she was born on July 30th, 1868 in Tösse parish.

Did Anna’s family immigrate to Norway?
Yes, the whole family immigrated to Norway 1887 except Anna

Did Alfred’s parents or his sister immigrate to Norway?
No, however, his sister Ida Danielsson Friman emigrated twice to the U.S (1891 and 1897)

Did Alfred and Anna go alone to Oslo, Norway?

Alfred left for the U.S in 1886, Anna the following year. I believe the reason why she didn't go with her family to Norway was simple because she had other plans, in this case: America.

Where and with whom did Anna live with, after Alfred left for US?

Anna went to Fröskog 1886. She became a housekeeper and then emigrated to America 7 April 1887

It is still not clear whether Alfred and Anna met in Sweden or in America. However, I do believe it didn't quite worked out in America after the first emigration and they decided to return, not to Sweden but to Norway. It was in Norway that Anna's family resided.

Johan Alfred Danielsson Friberg (later Freeman) had - as stated previously - a brother named Leander Danielsson.

Leander Danielsson became a Tailor (like his brother) and remained in Sweden.

Just for the fun of it. Have a look at the U.S 1900 census:

Alfred Freeman
Spouse    Anna Freeman
Child    Alfa Freeman
Child    Rudolph Freeman
Child    Ruth Freeman
Child    Alfred Freeman
Child    Olga Freeman
Child    Baby Freeman

The Swedish 1900 census with Leander Danielsson and his family;

Danielsson, Leander, b. 1862
Wife Andreasdotter, Ingeborg, b. 1867
(Son), Luther, b. 1889
(Son), Gottfrid, b.1890
(Son), Rudolf   , b. 1892
(Daughter), Alfa Alvida, b. 1895
(Son), Allvar, b. 1897
(Son), Friden, b. 1900

OR - Anna could have gone via Norway, to visit her family. Many people did go via Norway to work for a while in order to make money for the journey. She may have stayed and met Alfred there.

That is true Chris!

When Johanna Alfrida Friberg (later Alpha J Freeman) was born at the National Hospital in Oslo on the 15th of Feb, 1890, the record gives us an adress referring to her mother Anna. This was a hospital, so clearly, Anna did not live there. I have no knowledge of Oslo and the addresses and places. Were did Anna live at the time of Alphas birth?

Hi Everyone!
I just finished reading the conversations and I am thrilled for all this information.
As for Anna's where abouts: Based on the above, it is plausible that Anna lived in Oslo after her   marriage on 17 April 1889 because she had Alfrida in Oslo. Alfred had already returned to the US on July 23 1889 and from family lore Anna came to America alone with her baby.
Who she lived with in Oslo is unknown, but I think that since she traveled to Hamre, Horaland, Norway for her child's Baptism on 24 Feb 1890, there must have been family in that city. I assume she wanted to show off her new baby and spend that important time with family before she left for the US.
What do you think?
Mary

Kristian Hunskaar at the National Archives, Oslo sent the marriage notice, it confirms that Anna from Ånimskog is the right person and that they both were free church ie not memebers of the state church since 1889.

Hey everyone!

Thanks to all who helped me out. But an even bigger thanks to you, Helena, because it was you who graciously hung with me until my questions were answered.
Together, you have completed the puzzle! And I will always be very grateful for all the work that you have put into this. Instead of just dates, you have given me information about my ancestors that allows me to see them as real people. In fact, I like it better when ancestors that have an “interesting” past.  And best of all, my Dad now knows the story of his grandparents.
I spent the afternoon telling my dad about his grandparents and we had such a chuckle. He said he was not surprised about Alfred's past because he did have a drinking problem, and therefore his family was very, very poor in Minnesota. Then one day he was gone, leaving Anna alone with all the children. Since no one talked about it, my Dad assumed he had died. But, I have not found a death certificate, so we think he probably ran away from his problems and ended up in a potter's field.
No need to worry about Anna though. Dad said she was a very beautiful woman who loved to flirt with the men. She immediately remarried a man who had a good job and owned a house.  But, she never stopped flirting with all the men that came by riding their horses! Never spoke English, but the men were crazy about her. He tells me she really loved life.
Anyway, I may never find out when Anna and her baby came over, but I have more information then I ever thought I would.
I will always remember your kindness and I hope to pay it forward. In fact, I just sent some information to a fellow who lives in Uppsala. He was wondering what happened to his ancestor Uppgren/Uppling after he came to Minnesota. It was nice to be able to help him out.
Thank You, Thank you Thank you.
Warm regards,
Mary Upgren

PS:  Hey Helena!   I love the “tidbit” that you added about US 1900 census for Alfred Freeman and the Swedish 1900 census for brother Leander. The name “Alfa” and “Rudolph” must have some significance for their family. But very interesting.
