Surname Annell

It is possible Johanna Sofia Annell, born Gryt,Nyköping, Södermanland, was my great-aunt.The Annell surname is not a familiar one. Does it have any special meaning or significance?

Annell doesn't mean anything, but -ell is a quite common ending of invented family names.
 
Perhaps the name is inspired by a placename like Annelund or similar, or from a grandparent named Ann or Anders, or something completely different...

I now find that the actual spelling was Amnell. Johanna Sofia was born 21 Oct 1841 or 1844, I've been told both dates. Now I'm told she was born in Ludgo, Södermanland. Is that close-by to Gryt? She was married there in 1860.

In my family we have some named Annell. Johan (Mattsson) Annell was born December 15, 1878 in Wahlö and his brother Per (Mattsson) Annell born May 29, 1867 in Wahlö. The name took them from the village they came from, Annö, it is located in the municipality of Östhammar in Uppland. They are siblings with my grandmother's mother. I myself grew up in the village.
