I am looking for my stor stor farfar or if that isn't right, my great great grandfather's family.
His name in America was August S Aelmore 19 Aug 1852. He immigrated in 1868. He ended up in MCpherson KS, USA. Married and had 11 children with Joanna Catlin, who was related to painter George Catlin.
His family lived in Sweden (Kalmar)and I am told his parents were possibly Nils Peter Svensson and Kristina Katerina Mansdr. If you know this family and the genealogy or living relatives please contact me.
Thanks so much.Carla

Hello!
I checked the Emibas CD for a man that could be August S Aelmore. As I presume the name Aelmore was taken  in the US - I looked for an August, born 19th of Aug 1852, that emigrated in 1868, and was from the area around Kalmar. I just found one man that fitted in. It could be totally wrong of course. This man is not called August S - but Jonas August - so I doubt it is the right person. Also, his father´s name should be Samuel, as Jonas August is called Samuelsson. Anyway, here is Jonas August:

Post 172447

Samuelsson, Jonas August
Dräng (unmarried man)

b. 8/19/1852 in Rumskulla, Kalmar län (Småland)

Emigrated 3/30/1868
from Öfverarps Boställe, Hässleby, Jönköpings län (Småland)
to Nordamerika

Source: Household Examination Roll, p. 440

Emibas migration file ID: Hässleby F 1868 002

Sorry! I did not read this queery properly - now I see that you are looking for Sven August Svensson!

There is a Sven August Svensson that emigrates from Kalmar Län, but his birthdate is not correct (14th of Aug 1852)...nor his year of emigration (1871)

Hej,

Jonas August Samuelsson seems to be the right one. The dates (birth 1852-08-19, emigration 1868-03-30) are fitting, and there is a certain Johan Peter Samuelsson, the brother of Jonas August, born also in Rumskulla by the same parents 1854-08-08, who emigrated to Amerika 1869-04-22 and dies as John P. Aelmore 1932-12-17, being buried Eastern Cemetery, Clay Township, Hutchinson, Reno County, Kansas ( http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/reno/cemeteries/eastside/eastsidea.htm ).

The parents are Samuel August Svensson, born 1828-02-10 in Kråkshult parish, Jönköping province, and Lisa Catharina (or Carin) Jonsdotter, born 1825-05-24 in Södra Vi parish, Kalmar province.

The family and its emigration to Amerika ist best described in the Genline documents GID 1096.21.16500 and 1096.21.23200

Hope this helps

Arne Nilsson

Thanks to Arne Nilsson we have found our relatives stateside. I knew my grandfather Augustus Aelmore had changed his name from Svensson or now I know Samuelsson. I am now trying to find proof of his father's divorce or remarriage. Here is what I know:
Samuel August Svensson is the father of our grandfather Augustus S Aelmore.  Augustus S Aelmore's birth name was Sven August Svensson.  By Swedish custom he would have gone by August Sven Samuelsson.

His father Samuel August Svensson came to America with the “maid”. He married her either in Sweden or USA.
He and his new wife settled first in Rock Island, IL. Then became farmers in Minnesota. The family farm is still in the family.

They changed their names in America. Samuel August changed his name to August Swanson. His new wife Anna Maria Jonasdotter changed her name to Mary Anna Carlson. Together they had 10 children, who would be ½ brothers and sisters to our Augustus.

Augustus and his brother's and sister and the mother all changed their names to Aelmore.  The mother and sons are buried in Eastside Cemetery in Hutchinson, KS. The sister is buried in Port Arthur, Texas. Augustus is buried in McPherson Cemetery. I have all of these tombstones on Find a Grave. www.findagrave.com do a search on their names to see the tombstones. The above email has correct dates. I hope some one can find me the documents to prove his remmariage in Sweden or USA.

Thanks so much!

They most likely were not married in 1865. In the document Arne refers to they leave together with one of the sons, Frans on 20 April 1868 (without papers). Samuel is then still married to Lisa Catharina who leaves with the other children some time in 1868 (no exact date given). He could not have married in Sweden without the proper papers from his home parish.

Lisa moves to Bäckhult farm in the same parish in 1868. 135 persons leave for America at almost the same time in 1868 from this parish. Lisa is listed as moving to America April 3, 1870. A note in the records says that her husband has run away to America in 1868, so they are not divorced. Johan Peter Samuelsson leaves in 1869.

I posted this message on an old board a couple of weeks ago.  Did not receive a response. So I would like to re-post it. The last reply I received was from Siv in 2006. I have been asked to resume this family's research, so to begin with, Siv stated, Nils Håkansson (b. 28 Nov 1825 in Högeröd) and Eline Svensdotter (b. 4 Feb 1828 in Kirstainstad.) I have now found Nils (b. 1825) parents as Håkan Nilsson (b. 14 Dec 1781 in Högseröd) and Maria Christiansdotter (b. 7 May 1797, also in Högseröd.) They were married about 1808 in Högseröd.) I am now hoping to locate Håkan's ancestors. I have searched the website DDSS with no luck. I have also searched all of the Ancestry.com/Rootsweb family trees. No luck again.  Would be most grateful for any help.
